Course Overview:

This course will be stimulating and informative for you. You will examine the role of stress on motivation and explore goal-congruent emotions. You will analyze peak performance and the ability to attain peak performance.

Have you ever wondered why people are aggressive? Is human aggression a major societal concern? In this course, you will examine the role of the brain and gender in aggression. You will reflect on your own personal coping styles and your goal-directed motivational behaviors or obstacles to analyze how fear and anxiety paralyze and individual. In addition, you will look at the roles of emotions and addictions, such as substance use and misuse, on motivation.

Let’s begin by reviewing the topics that will be covered in this course.

You will learn about the social cognitive theories of goal-setting. You will discuss Bandura’s theory of self-esteem to understand how motivation is impacted by self-esteem. You will learn about the locus of control and Lazarus’s stress factors. In addition, you will discuss the biological factors of motivation and the role of brain in monitoring emotions.

You will discuss the fight and flight response, specifically, Gray’s fight-flight system, behavioral activation (BAS) and behavioral inhibition (BIS) systems and LeDoux’s model of the amygdale and aggression. In addition, you will discuss the biological, cognitive, and social learned concepts of aggression.

You will discuss goal incongruent (negative) and goal congruent (positive) emotions. You will learn about Seligman’s model of learned helplessness and the theory of goal-setting. In addition, you will learn about cognition and its role in depression.

You will revise your learning from the entire course.
